ICT is delivered throughout the college in Key Stages 3, 4 and Sixth Form.
Subject Information
Key Stage 3:
At Key Stage 3, ICT is delivered in Years 8 and 10. The work is focused on thematic based units, such as Positive Life Choices, Global Awareness and a STEM based project. Pupils develop skills in areas such as web design, spreadsheets, multimedia, database, word processing, email and collaborative tools. This supports the cross-curricular assessment of ICT in other learning areas. Focus is also given to the acquisition of use of Number (financial awareness), Communication and Personal and Social Development.
Key Stage 4:
At Key Stage 4, the following courses are offered:
- GCSE Single Award (CCEA)
- GCSE Double Award (CCEA)
- Diploma in Digital Arts (EDEXCEL)
For each of these courses there is a strong emphasis on skill acquisition demonstrated through coursework or controlled assessment. The technologies used include spreadsheets, database, multimedia, web design, moving image and games development.
Sixth Form
In Sixth Form, pupils study towards the Applied ICT A-level offered by EDEXCEL. The content of this course includes
- Unit 1: Life in the Information Age
- Unit 2: The Digital Economy
- Unit 3: The Knowledge Worker
- Unit 7: Using Databases
- Unit 8: Project Management
- Unit 10: Multimedia
